I am a native Texan, born in Pasadena. I play the guitar
and sing. I only own one guitar that cost more than $300, but I have 7 (that
I know where they are, some are on loan). I have been playing and singing
since I was about 12. I am self taught. My brother showed me how to play
some and then I learned by watching others, and trying to duplicate where
they put their fingers. I’m sure this is the reason I have no clue what
chords I’m playing half of the time. Playing the guitar and singing is the
one time I truly feel connected with God and don’t worry about anything
else. I suppose that’s what you call worship. I truly believe that music is
a great tool to connect with people and it really helps people to relax and
let go of their inhibitions. I have had too many musical influences over the
years to list. I will always be grateful to my brother Cliff, first for
being my friend, and second for always keeping me positive about my musical
skills. We were lucky to always have music around the house, my grandmother
could play any instrument she picked up by ear, my mom plays the piano and
organ and dad, well… he could whistle and was always positive. I am also
thankful for all of the years my brother and I have played together. It has
truly been a blessing to have played for this many years, but to play in the
same band as my son, Chris, is priceless. I am living a dream to be able to
still play and sing and to be able to share it with Chris, Vince, James,
Eileen, Emily, Alan and Andrew is truly a blessing.
This last bit of wisdom is for my loving wife, Marsha, who is everything to
me and makes me who I am. “If it sounds good turn it up. If it sounds bad
turn it up. If it’s too loud, you’re too old!” (She’s gonna get me for that)
God, You are the music, we’re just the band.
